About Us
Roanoke Social Circle is built on a simple idea: when neighbors come together, communities thrive. We see fairness, empathy, and inclusion as the foundations of a healthy society. We host events that bring the community together—from social gatherings and workshops to rallies and volunteer drives. Real progress happens when people share ideas and act together with purpose. We believe government, business, and citizens each have a role to play in building a just and vibrant community.
Our Mission
The Mission of Roanoke Social Circle is to build, support and defend our community of like-minded friends and neighbors who live in the Roanoke Valley. We are primarily a social organization but will engage in social activist programs necessary to protect and defend our community. The group will determine what types of programs and events can best serve our community given the current socio-political climate in the country. We do not do everything and avoid duplicating activities of other likeminded organizations who we partner with.
What We Value
• Fairness, empathy, and inclusion
• Strong public education & a healthy environment
• Local enterprise & living wages
• Safe neighborhoods & accessible healthcare
Our Community Hub
The RSC community is hosted on an open-source platform called HumHub. It is secure and private. We do not share any data with anyone. There are no trolls and no ads. Just likeminded people trying to connect and stay connected. The platform is highly functional. Posting, texting, photo gallery, event calendar, polls, Q&A, Wiki, forums, meeting scheduler, and more. Think of it as Facebook on steroids.
Why It Matters
We keep conversations local, practical, and people-first. Members shape the programs we run, and we collaborate with like-minded groups so efforts add up rather than overlap.
Once you join, to help get you started, we will send you a list of your like-minded neighbors so you can build your social circle.
Community Spaces
Once you join RSC and create an account you will find several social and activist groups you can join—what we call Spaces. Join those Spaces that match your interest. If you are interested in creating a new Space around your interests let us know. This community is your community, so make it what you want. Our role is to plant some seeds, water the garden, and prune when needed.
Current Spaces
• Backgammon Circle
• Bowling Circle
• Crafting Circle
• Singing Circle
• Neighbor to Neighbor
